Papa Léguas is the name of a carnival association in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Founded in 1979 by a group of friends from the Colégio Salesiano College, Papa Léguas became widely known through their performance of of "Ave Maria" in Praça Castro Alves square in 1984. in a big moment in the history of Bahia Carnival: the interpretation making the crowd go wild. Another feather in Papa Léguas’ hat is the participation in a tribute to writer Jorge Amado on French television. Since 2003, Papa Léguas is called 'Papa' and parades with the band 'Babado Novo' and the singer Claudia Leitte. Currently, 'Papa' is one of the leading blocos in Bahian Carnival, with an infrastructure that includes a security section comprising 1500 men.
